Educational aim: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: Know how to use present participles, perfect gerunds and perfect participles appropriately Distinguish the usages of gerund, present participles, perfect gerunds and perfect participles appropriately 2. Knowledge: ( Language , Structures , New words ). Help students understand how to use present participle of the verbs, perfect gerunds and perfect participles - Do all the tasks in the course book / set by teacher correctly. - Work in pairs/groups effectively. - Lexical items / Language: Words related gerund and present participle New words : furious (adj)diary (n), modernize (v), be ashamed of (exp) 3. Skills : Speaking, writing - Do the exercises II. Methods : Mainly communicative approach and Integrated other suitable methods III. Teaching aids: • Teacher : ( GV) A lesson plan , Pictures , posters / slices , handouts • Students : ( HS ) Look up some new words. Review the Gerund and usages of gerund Prepare the knowledge of present participles, perfect gerunds and perfect participles appropriately VI. Procedures Teacher’s activities Students’ activities *. Grammar Ask students to look at the picture and answer the - Answer the question : question. What is the girl doing now ? She is teaching the children to read and write  Present Participle 2. Present participle: ( 15’ ) + Presentation: * Form: Verb – ing Write down and give examples. Ex: 1. Can you smell something burning? 2. We had to leave the tree lying there. 3. He spent a fortune rebuilding that old house. * Usages : We can use the present participle • to form the continuous tenses: We are studying English now • as an adjective: The play was boring. • after a certain verbs: After the basic verbs of sensation (see, hear, feel and smell) After listen to, notice and watch, we can use object + participle: 1. I heard the car stopping and saw him getting out. 2. We watched the children playing. 3. I saw him crossing the road. After : find, catch, leave + object (person or thing) e.g . I found them picking apples. (They were picking apples when I arrived.) After : go / spend / waste / be busy + V-ing • To reduce a clause – one subject with 2 actions at the same time We sat in front of T.V, watching football. + Practice: Exercise 2:

Complete each of the following sentences with an appropriate present participle of the verbs from the box - Read the command and translate . - Read exercise 2 - Read the words in the box and give the meaning - Example: I saw him my house. ⟹ I saw him passing my house 1. Write down .  I am sorry for having kept you waiting so long. b. After Jack had read the letter twice, he wrote a reply.  After having read the letter twice, Jack wrote a reply. 3.a. Perfect gerund ( danh động từ hoàn thành )
  4. Form: having + Vp.p (Past participle ) Usages : It is used to refer a past action. ( Được dựng để chỉ hành động đó hoàn thành trong quỏ khứ/ trước thời điểm núi) e.g . She regretted having eaten too much 3.b. Perfect participle ( phõn từ hoàn thành ) Form: having + Vp.p (Past participle ) Usages : To reduce clauses with one doer - when one action happened before He ate breakfast He went to school another action =>Having eaten breakfast, he went to school Practice : Exercise 3: Put the verb in brackets into the perfect gerund or - Read exercise 3 perfect participle. Example: He was accused of ___ (desert) his ship two months ago. He was accused of having deserted his ship two months ago. 1.I object to him ___ (make) private calls on the office phone. 2. ___ (be) his own boss for such a long time, he found it hard to accept orders from another. 3. They denied ___ (be) there. 4.___ (tie) one end of the rope to his bed, he threw the other end out of the window. 5.___ (read) the instruction, he snatched up the fire extinguisher. 6.
